American Horror Story influence.

American horror story- influence?

Black and White

The use of black and white throughout the mise-en-scene in the title sequence is very useful as it shows a dark and mysterious atmosphere. Dark colours usually symbolize danger therefore including this throughout the title sequence is very significant.

Colour

Within the title sequence short snaps of colour are included- red being the main one.  The colour red symbolizes a lot of things, love and death being the two main ones. We can see that in this title sequence it obviously symbolizes death due to the graphic material it is put alongside.

Cinematography

Throughout the whole title sequence the shots used are short snippets- enough to make you jump! This will have been done to create tension ready for the actual thing to kick in! Not only does it create tension but it educates you that it will, in actual fact, be a horror film. This prepares you for what you are going to watch and acts almost like a warning sign.

The music used throughout the whole thing is very plain and bland. But this is done because it makes the whole thing sound scarier. It is a smart way to get across that it is going to be frightening.
