Woman in Black end scene- boy dies.
Children in film.
Within our short film we wanted to include a small boy. Because of this we each did research on films that have aspects we could include. Within my research i came across the film 'The Woman in black'. This film is a spine chilling horror film that includes the idea of children in film.
In this supernatural thriller and horror, Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe), a widowed lawyer whose grief has put his career as a lawyer in jeopardy, is sent to a remote village to sort out the affairs of a recently deceased eccentric. But upon his arrival, it soon becomes clear that everyone in the town is keeping a deadly secret. Although the townspeople try to keep Kipps from learning their tragic history, he soon discovers that the house belonging to his client is haunted by the ghost of a woman who is determined to find someone and something she lost…and no one, not even the children, are safe from her vengeance.
I decided to anaylse the mise-en-scene within this short clip and get an idea of what props, costumes, lighting and sound we could use. For example as soon as the clip starts we are greeted by the house. This house has got many photos in from the past and old letters. It has a dark atmosphere to create the idea that it is a horror film. From watching this i liked the idea of photographs and how the eyes of the people were scrated out. Almost as if they cannot see what is happening. Because in our short clip we have the idea of finding drawings from the child i thought that maybe we could incorprate the photographs with scrated eyes. I feel that this could be an important aspect in our film and could identify that Sister Judith- Or the child- does not know what is going on.
When it comes to the train station we are given a slight lift in colour. This could be because light usually sympolises hope. The light used in this is important as we can see important things going on in the mise-en-scene. We also are told that it is not modern times due to the costumes worn, for example flat caps and long skirts (nothing that our generation would wear). In our film we need to think of the time frame that it is set in and also the costumes that our characters wear.
