Influences

Our project has a lot of similar films with many other films. One of the main parts that was influenced by main films is the twist at the end. This was influenced by many films one of them being Goodnight Mommy.

 This is a film that has not yet come out however the story line and then general theme has been an influence on the outcome of the storyline. As at the end of the film it turns out that one of the main characters is actually dead. The character like the main one in our project- Lukas has died in an accident prior to the events of the movie. However in our project the main character dies due to abuse at the hands of the mother. In ours the main character is being hallucinated by the mother. In goodnight mommy the Lukas is being
hallucinated by the brother.

This is a similar influence that Goodnight Mommy had on the project is (the also not out yet film) The Boy. This film is based on a young women being a sitter she discovers that she was hired to care for is actually a life-size porcelain doll that the parents treat like a real boy, as a way to cope with the death of their son. The genre and the actual story line is the initial thing that gave me the idea for Purity. I wanted a lot of it to show a broken bond between a mother and a son.

  A lot of the influence for our main character comes from the character Esther from the movie Orphan. While it is revealed she is not actually a child it is

quite shocking to have a young child behaving in that way. I’d also like the main characters mannerisms to be similar to Esther’s. The mother when she is a child has simlar dress to her and manerisms and ther sons ghost will aslo be simlar to her.

Another film that our project will borrow from is the movie Carrie. This film has a lot of influence on the main character the mother. I would like the mother in our film to be controlled by religion. This is shown in the fact that she tries to get her son an exorcism and she has a lot of religious symbols in the house. She believes that her son is the devil and that he is pure evil or being controlled by the devil. A lot of this has tro do with the fact that she was a former nun but she was then excommunicated when she got pregnant with her child. She believes that her son is the rouit to all sin.
