Questionnaire

Questionnaire: read the storyline, watch the film and then answer the questions: (Ending and beginning of the film take place in the same scenario and the middle reverts to the past) Beginning: At the eye view of Sister Judith (she’s struggling to maintain consciousness and the camera continually and briefly cuts to black), the camera observes the setting around where a young child appears to be crouched on the ground drawing. Middle: The camera is focused on the door as it opens and Father Abraham opens it, greets Sister Judith and brings her inside, calls to another Sister Mary to assist Sister Judith, the camera then focuses on his facial expression which has a hint of intrigue and could possibly connote the forshadowing of events to come. 1) Sister Judith builds up a rapport with Sister Mary, who has been in her circumstances and came to the church at an earlier time. Their understanding and connection begins to grow (illustrated through them being slightly affection, talking and laughing, MLS, Father Abraham watches in the background) 2.) She is also charmed by Father Abraham and he somewhat takes advantage of her vulnerability. (high angle) 3.) Sister Mary said the charming from Father Abraham had happened to her but she rejected him (has a nervous disposition about her whilst discussing this, could possibly use euphemistic language and talk in riddles with no clear objective to show how unnerved she continues to be over the incident). 4.) As FA realises he is losing his grip and newly found control upon SJ it is implicitly implied that they have sex as they go into a room (low angle) 4. A) Large religious mural that Father Abraham prays to and confides in the prayer about his own bad nature 5.) Little snippets showing Father Abraham's domination over Sister Judith through body language and dialogue 6.) Sister Judith is visibly pregnant, due to which she is publicly shamed (gasping track?) and it is announced by Father Abraham that she is to be expelled with no belongings as 'everything that touches her has been corrupted' to no question, Sister Mary helps her escape with a box of belongings, they hold in an affectionate and passionate embrace (aware that this is the last time they will ever see each other). 7.) A nice camera trick to indicate a fast forward in time 8.) her at like a salvation army house with the child now around 5, increasingly erratic and unhinged, despair and fear apparent in the child (whose vulnerability and reliance now mirrors that of Sister Judith upon Father Abraham) 9.) Sister Judith descends into paranoia and madness, she is with her son at the lake and it left to the audiences' imagination what happens. Ending: She gets up, takes her son’s hand and walks away as they walk into the distance (MLS) an extreme fade goes onto her (connotes that her son is not real, as she has needed something love, but is left up to the audience’s imagination and is ambiguous). name, occupation, age and gender? "Alex Drury, student, 17, male." What music do you think would be suitable for our film? "music of an eerie nature." What do you think would be a suitable genre for our film? "Horror or some subgenre of it like psychologoical horror." What do you think age rating of the film would be? "A 15 or 18 because it sounds quite dark." Do you feel engaged with the storyline? "Yeah, psychological thrillers and horrors are my favourite genre of film. From the plot the film sounds like a lot could develop within it." What do you think has been done well in our film? "I like that the themes you've involved are challenging and the film itself has a general aura of intrigue and mystery." Could you suggest any improvements? "Your film could be a little clearer with some clear markers for the plot, a lot is left to the audience's imagination." What themes do you think are involved within the film? "Sexuality, the fact that it is more complex than we think that is demonstrated in the film by Sister Judith wanting both Sister Mary and Father Abraham but knowing she should only have Sister Mary. Homelessness, Sister Judith comes to the church from the streets and then reverts back to the streets with her infant son. The wrongdoings of the church."
