Posters in films- horror films compared to others.

Posters for films and how they can be presented differently.

Within this poster above the maker of it focused on a very important part of all horror movies, blood. Blood within films is a type of iconography and it was included within this poster to get across to the demographic that this film- if you hadn't guessed already- is a horror. Also the CGI that is used shows a face within the blood, this is done by a computer to enhance the idea that this film is scary. This is important that we include things like this in posters or advertisments as it automatically shows the audience the genre within a film. This film is clearly a horror film therefore the way in which they have added these items of iconography and CGI combined is very creative. Secondly aside of this the writing used on the poster is jet black. This is significant in horror films as the colour black represents darkness and horror, choosing this colour for the writing is important as it again represents horror. Also the font that is used is very bold and upfront, visible to see. This is important for the simple fact that the audience can clearly read it. Finally with the writing there is shadows behind and underneath it, this suggests darkness again and also the sense that someone could be following someone- much alike your shadow.

The poster for oculus is chilling on its own. The idea that the hands are on the woman face in the photo immediately screams horror to the audience. This is significant again as we are not even told that it is a horror. The line "You see what it wants you to see" is also very important as it is aiming the words directly at the audience, this can get them questioning and also scare them into wanting to know more. The hands on the eyes could however possibly be symbolism that the character behind the hands is blind to what is happening around her. Again a typical theme in horror- the unknown.

The posters used for this film are very important. This is because the children used within it are portrayed as innocent and scared. Within the first one we can see Lily hiding behind something, this can signify her youth and show how young she is. This can show to the audience that she is infact very scared of what is happening. I thought maybe if we incorporated shots like this one into our film then it would be very effective as it can portray the child in our film as innocent. Also the way in which the maker of this poster has shown her facial expressions and her paralinguistic features is very important. We are given the facial expression of a little girl who almost looks as if she is evil, this could forebord that she in this film has a twist of personality. Secondly the paralinguistic features she has is grabbing a hold of someone's arm, this could show us that she is scared and also shows us that in this film we are more than likely going to be grabbing a hold of someone's arm while watching- typical attribute of a horror film.

Within the poster above we can see a bunch of grown men doing stupid things. This is very typical of a comedy film. Within the poster the maker of it had included everyone's facial expressions to put the idea across that they are laughing- what you would do in a comedy film. Also the paralinguistic features that some contain, for example hands up in the air, show that they are having a funny or exciting time. Next the colour of the poster is bright and vibrant, this is important to take notice of because as appose to horrors we can immediately tell what kind of film it is just because of the choice of primary colours, red, blue etc.

Next within the next poster they have included the actors names in bold at the top of the page. This is because these actors are well known therefore doing this will increase the popularity of the film. Again the primary colour red is used as this is a bright colour that presents the film as a comedy as appose to a horror.  The writing on the poster is big and bold which is a common attribute to all comedy film posters, it shows the audience that it is going to be a fun film to watch. The costumes that the characters are wearing also represents that they are brothers as they are matching, this is seen as funny due to them being grown men. Finally the facial expressions that the both of them have are clueless, this could suggest that both of them are a bit dopey and stupid, again another common key theme within comedy films.

Finally in this last poster we again see a group of grown men doing something stupid. And again we see famous names at the top including Adam Sandler. The quote "boys will be boys... some longer than others" is important as it immediately shows us that this film will have comedy within it and scenes that will make you laugh out loud. Much alike the other two posters again primary colours are used on it to make us aware that it is not a horror film, not a documentary, it is a comedy film.
