Religious symbolism and iconography will be used throughout the film in order to set the tone. This will help indicate many factors of the film. The religious symbols will help establish the feeling and set scenes.
Things such as habits for characters that are nuns and a priest costume. These outfits and the setting of the church will show that the main character has been taken in by the church without breaking the immersion by outright saying this is whats happened.
The use of religious symbols through out the film (or religious iconography?) Also helps set the scene and the mood. It will be as if you can not move without religious symbols dominating the scenes in the church. This will represent how under control the characters are by this religion.
For example in one scene Father Abraham is kneeling before a large picture of Jesus. In this scene low angle and high angle shots will be used in order to establish the dominance that religion plays on his life, this will be shown along side the dominance that he has over sister Judith's life. Further to this an extreme close up and of the picture and an eyeline match will be used.
