The age rating for the Purity (brief summary)
Through analysing over the BBFC rating website, i have therefore been able to come to a conclusion upon what the film rating for 'Purity' should be through the criteria that the BBFC offers for each age rating. The film purity should be classified as a '15'. This is due to that the film will reference to copulation; as Father Abraham and Sister Judith have many romantic encounters together which leads to sister Judith becoming pregnant. However within a 15, copulation can be portrayed just with little detail due to impressionable teens, who may take the scenes further and interpret it within other situations. Due to the film being set within an earlier period within history (1900) there may be the irregular occurrence of discriminative language towards the suggestive homosexual bond between Sister Mary who is infact secretly homosexual and Sister Judith. Additionally with the outburst of hidden abuse that was proclaimed to have taken place within Catholic grounds, the film 'purity' highlights this however within the terms of adult relationships (Father Abraham and Sister Judith). The BBFC states that 'The work as a whole must not endorse
discriminatory language or behaviour, although
there may be racist, homophobic or other
discriminatory themes and language'. Therefore again suggesting why 'purity' would be classified as a '15'.
