Research into our chosen film genre
In film the term ‘genre’ refers to the method of categorizing films based on similarities in the narrative elements from which films are constructed.
For example our chosen genre is horror. Horror is a film genre seeking to elict a negative emotional reaction from viewers by playing on their primal fears.
Some examples of fear

·      Spiders

This was a campy, 1950s, giant monster movie. King Kong put this genre on the map, and with the advancements in technology, the special effects progressed beyond stop-motion by the time of this film.

One of the very few good movies dedicated to an accurate depiction of what makes spiders scary. Not the giant ones.
The horrific scene is at the end, when they all leave the nest and infest Jeff Daniels’ house, spreading all over the walls, the door, the TV, spewing out of the sink drain, up under the doorknobs, under the doors, hanging down from the ceiling. And in the film, they’re so poisonous that one bite will kill you in 5 seconds. Daniels pitches over the stairs and crashes into the basement, where Big Mama and Daddy are nesting.

 

Ghosts-

 

1. After a sexual encounter, 19-year old girl Jay finds herself followed by an entity. She learns that this curse has been passed to her by the sexual encounter and the only way to get rid of it to pass it on to someone else the same way. But, if that person dies by its hand, the entity will again follow her to kill. Now she must seek her friend’s help to save herself. This tense and incredibly scary horror movie has garnered positive reviews is one of the best scary movies of 2015 so far.

2.  In this remake of a classic horror film, a family experiences paranormal activity in their new suburban home. Their daughter begins communicating with a paranormal entity and is soon abducted, so the family contacts the Paranormal Research department to get their daughter back. Though not one of the best scary films this year, it does pay homage to the original.

3.  Insidious 3 is the prequel to the original movie, in which the Lambert family is haunted in their new home. In the film, Elise Rainier, a gifted psychic reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity. The movie was released on June 5 and regarded as one of the scariest films of 2015. 

Clowns

A comic entertainer, especially one in a circus, wearing a traditional costume and exaggerated makeup is what the definition of clown is. But what would it be referring to clowns in horror films? Clown makeup and costume is a very important aspect within film as you can portray the character in different ways. Firstly if the clown is presented with bright and primary colours then it is more likely to be a good clown wheras if the clown is presented with dull colours and black and grey then it will be seen as a bad clown. The makeup also follows the same lines with this as you would find a typical clown to have a red smile, white face and vibrant shapes on and around their facial features. Therefore not following this guideline will present the clowns as different.
