2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? (to have screen shots put in from film)

Our  product represents social groups in many ways. In particular religious social groups, our film represents religious groups. In a sense it’s almost a retelling of the Adam and Eve story. It however shows religious groups in a very stereotypical way. Nuns and priests in our film are portrayed through
religious dialog and imagery. Nuns are shown in Habits and priests in stereotypical outfits.
Our product presents a lot of stereotypes throughout when it comes to showing the catholic religion.
This is done in diffrent ways in simlar media products such as Carrie where religion was shown to dominate Carrie and her mother but her mother was also dominanting of Carrie.
The use of a church for filming also places many religious symbols throughout our film. Candles, pictures of Jesus, stain glass from the church and many other things are used through the production to show the presence of Jesus and how important he is in their lives and how he rules over them as he’s almost their watching over them no matter where they are.
Father Abraham in our product is portrayed as very controlling. This is stereotypical when it comes to how males are portrayed in main stream media. This is shown in the positioning he takes in many shots. At the start of our film he’s shown at a low angle. This demonstrates how he’s portrayed as above the others.
The dialog he uses when talking to Sister Mary and Sister Judith also demonstrates his dominance as a male and the head of his church over the women at his church. He’s constantly asking them to perform tasks for him while still maintaining the head role. This not only shows female submission but male dominance; True to typecast gendered norms.
Homosexuality is also portrayed in our product however this isn’t entirely clear. Like many forms of media past and present it is portrayed through subtext. It’s not directly stated that Sister Mary is infatuated with Sister Judith however there are many hints to state it.
Sister Mary running her hand over Sister Judith shows that while she loves her she must restrain herself. Talking to her and warning her to stay away from Father Abraham can be interpreted as jealousy of their relationship and many other things. The feelings Mary has for Judith is portrayed in a stereotypical way as she’s not ever able to state it due to fear of a negative backlash.
