Question two;How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Within our film purity, we aimed to subvert many of the hegemonic stereotypes that were and still are persistent within the Media domain upon ones gender identity, sexuality and subgroups within society. The main established relationships within the film is a heterosexual encounter between sister Judith and Father Abraham and a homosexual relationship between Sister Judith and Sister Mary. Many homosexual relationships are still portrayed within the heterosexual manner, of where one partner is more dominant than the other. This is due to the heteronormative ideology that exists within society. We subverted this by showing equal dominance from both sisters within the flourishing relationship. This is highlighted in the two-shot of the sisters (pictured below). It establishes the equal shared distribution of the dominance but also establishes that  this relationship is more than just a friendship, as it connotes the two Sisters share affection to one another especially expressed through the body language, hand contact and their eye direction. Many of these characteristics were inspired through numerous films that as part of research were looked into; Bare(2015 release) and Thelma and Louise(1993 release). These two films both showed women in dominant, independent roles who took control of their own lives.Within Bare the two women shared a homeosexual encounter diverging from the traditional 'hetereosexaul relationship' where women are centred around; getting married, having children and  conversations that are centred around males or issues that relate from males. Why tried to subvert this ideology by centring the sisters encounters on showing how they truly grow on one another. This was expressed through other elements of mise-en-scene; their attire, props, body positioning and internal monologue of sister Judith. Lesbianism is hardly foreshown within films and due to the growing positive acceptance and recognition of the LBGTQ+ community, portraying not only a small range of sexualities but highlighting that there is not just one persistent ideology within the film industry but its forever tailoring films for a wider demographic audience(as the first lesbian-themed feature film was 'Madchen uniform(1931)'.

Another factor to take into consideration is how we aimed to represent the heterosexaul encounter between Sister Judith and Father Abraham. Typically many heterosexual relationships which are portrayed within the media domain are shown to be the norm within society and therefore are the norm within films. However even though some of the characteristics of Father Abraham conform to the stereotypical norm portrayal of the hegemonic masculinity by being dominant over sister Judith. This is highlighted within the low angle shot featured of Father Abraham within his priest attire.

However then he is shown to be overtly emotional which is expressed through the internal monologue of how he turns to God for some advice within the situation. This subverts the hegemonic norm and expresses that there are many types of masculine identity.
