Question 2.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Our product portrays social groups in many ways. Firstly I would like to discuss how in our film we portray the particular stereotype of nuns and priests. From what most people know nuns have many different traits along with them. They are said to be 'pure' , as to be a nun you have to have had no sexual experiences. This is where we decided that Purity would be a brilliant name for our film. However going against the normal stereotype associated with nuns we decided that we would include lesbian nuns in our narrative. This is shown clearly through the shot where SM gracefully follows SJ's body shape and the camera pans and follows the hand movement. This is a creative way to show that she cannot portray her sexuality due to the occupation she has. Along with all this, the mise-en-scene adds beautifully from the lit candles signifying love. This then creates warm expressionism in the shot which shows a more homely and comfortable feel, this somewhat could portray that something may happen with how comfortable she feels about her sexuality and forebord some of the story to the audience.

Secondly the next representation is FA. Within this we can see that the male has the authority within situations and portrays them as the stronger sex. This is already a representation society and media already portray. Within our film to portray the dominant male we used sound creatively and ensured FA spoke very condescending to other characters. This enabled him to seem like a character in charge and portray the idea that males are more dominant than females.

Another way in which we presented this was through cinematography. Within the church we filmed him from a low angle to make him look superior to the audience. This enabled them to feel threatened and realise that he is dominant to other characters on the short film.
