Question 1.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

To establish a plot for our media we decided to watch a range of different horror films in order to see the narrative in which they use. This enabled us to take different ideas and incorporate them all to create a story. An example of a film which I got some ideas from is the film Mama. This film included the sense of imaginary figures, therefore in our film we decided to have the idea that SM’s child was imagined. To show this, within the editing stage we edited a shot where SJ was walking with her child in one hand faded into another shot in which he was walking with his hand out, as if he was holding someone's hand. Due to this, I was able to create a sense in which the audience questioned whether the child was real or not.

The before credits of our film are very significant as we included a montage of different shots which show sections of the plot without the audience knowing. Along with these shots we included non-diegetic church bells to signify that the church will be important within our film. This music was rhythmic along with the shots as every time there was a shot change I added a church bell. The typography used on these before credits are white, we did this because the film is called “Purity” and white is a colour that suggests purity. When the name of the film appears we incorprated ideas from the film seven where the titles go disorientated, this was to create the idea that there was something wrong. However in these titles we used the colour red to connote danger, this foreboarded to the audience that something bad was going to happen.

Finally the mise-en scene was an important as to show that nuns were involved I had to buy a nun costume and film in a church to get the right atmosphere. This made our film look more realistic and enabled our demographic to be more interested.
